What We Believe

We understand that there are many teachings concerning the Bible, which individuals believe to be essential or of great importance, the leadership at The Vine Church is committed to the following list of “We Believe” statements created with the Apostles Creed in mind.  We call them foundational principles, as they are essential to the unity enjoyed at The Vine.  We also encourage freethinking and welcome a broad understanding concerning biblical issues that are not listed in the “We Believe” statements.

In an attempt to confess agreement with the truth of scripture Christian churches have formed or adopted creeds as an outline of what they believe. One of the earliest Creeds of the Christian faith is the Apostle’s Creed.  Its origins can be dated back to very early times in the Church, a half century or so from the last writings of the New Testament.  It was the creed that could be appealed to as held by the church in all its great branches, and so as forming the test of a true Christian Church.  The Creed is thought to have been originally confessed upon receiving the sacrament of Baptism.

Though The Vine Church is a church living in a very different time, our faith is rooted in the same foundation as the early church- the belief in the perfect Word of God in the Bible.  This means that there are certain core beliefs about what the Bible says with which we are unwilling to part.  We believe in being connected to the history of the Lord Jesus’ work in the church, but we also want to put these core beliefs into fresh and understandable language for our people today.  Therefore, we include an ancient document of core beliefs as well as our own list in contemporary language.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth .I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,  born of the Virgin Mary,  suffered under Pontius Pilate,  was crucified, died, and was buried;  he descended to the dead.  On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and he will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,  the resurrection of the body,  and the life everlasting. AMEN.    Apostles' Creed

At “The Vine” ...

We Believe in Jesus Christ.  He is the Son of God the Father, fully God and fully Man, and the Savior of the world.  (Matt. 16:16-17; Phil. 2:6; 1 John 4:14)

We Believe there is only one way to God, this is through faith in Jesus Christ.  (John 14:6; Rom. 3:21-22; Eph. 1:4-7; Gal. 2:16)
