Open Door Ministries
The Vine Church has partnered up with Open Door Ministries for the past five years, sending a group of church members to Honduras. This year will be the fifth trip to Honduras. Our partnership is a blessing that allows us to develop relationships with the children, teens, and women/men in Honduras. We all leave Honduras with our own individual memories of the children, people, and special moments that touched us. Open Door Ministries is a U.S.-based non-profit organization that was started and is run by Barry and Penny Compton of Kissimmee Florida. The organization provides food distribution, construction, medical and orphanage assistance, and micro-economic aid to the children of Central America.
Where We Will Be Helping
Open Door Ministries manages The Gates of Hope, Children's Village, and Las Brisas a feeding station in Tocoa. The Gates of Hope houses 25 girls and their babies. Many of these girls have become pregnant as a result of rape and would continue to live a life of abuse, incest and neglect until they are rescued from their environment. The Gates of Hope is designed to offer a safe environment where pregnant girls can receive prenatal care and a sound education. The environment offers girls, and their children, hope in achieving a higher quality of life.
The Children's Village is made up of of ten Casitas, some single and double story homes. The single story Casitas are 1,300 sq. ft. and house six to eight children and a set of house parents.
Las Brisas, The Feeding Station at The Tocoa River feeds 73 children Monday - Friday. Many children travel over a mile, often barefoot, to the feeding station each day.
